Nissan Repair: 94 sentra engine rattles, haynes manual, timing chain

Question
1.My engine has a slight rattle once started.  I've been told that it possibly could be the timing chain. It seems to drive smooth. Could it be something less expensive and minor?

Answer
Chuck,

Yes, since the age it is most probably the timing chain.  Quite a chore and expensive to replace it.  Get a Haynes Manual and you will see how the front of the engine has to come off to access the timing chain.  All the assessories have to come off to get the cover off.  And, the harmonic balancer as well as the water pump.  It is a day job if you have the tools.  If you have not done something like this I would recommend a shop dut to the labor involved.
