Nissan Repair: A/C Recharge, haynes manual, freeze 12

Question
I have a 1992 Nissan pickup, 2.4 liter. My problem is I am trying to refill my freon but I can not find the low valve to attach the freon can to. In my Haynes manual they have a different picture than my truck has. Where is the valve located so I can refill the freon? Please help cause it is too hot the summer.

Answer
Eric,

Your truck uses R-12 and not R-134; therefore, you cannot just put refrigerant in the system unless you have a set of gauges that fit and a stock of R-12.  You could have your vehicle converted to the new refrigerant or you could get Freeze-12 from Sherco at http://www.sherco-auto.com/

They have everything you need to install Freeze-12 as a refrigerant.  It mixes with the R-12 and you do not have to spend the money to convert your system to R-134.  R-134 is does not cool as well as the old R-12 and the money spent on a conversion is going to be above and beyone the cost of just adding Freeze-12.  To convert you have to ecacuate the system and purchase adapters for your fill taps.  On yours the fill taps should be one on or close to the compressor and another by the receiver dryer.  Remember that you fill on the low side only.  If the system is operating and you open the valve to the high side you could blow the can of refrigerant up and hurt yourself or worse.  If you are not comfortable with performing the process get a professional.
