Nissan Repair: Master power windows switch, nissan maxima se, nissan maxima

Question
I found this question and response on AllExperts.com

Question -
i have a nissan maxima se v6 - 1994.

one day ALL the power windows stopped working all of a sudden. I can't believe that ALL the motors failed simultaneously. Could you please give any other suggestions as to what might have happened? also i cannot find a labelled fuse for the power windows. do you know where it is likely to be?
is there a 'master' control relay for the power windows?
nb. there is power to all the doors - ie: lights and electric wing mirrors still work

Answer -
Phil,

It is the master switch that has failed.  Replace the control panel on the drivers side door and you will be back in business.  It costs about $100 bucks with tax for a new one.

thank you for your quick reply.

1.  you say 'control panel'. is that the panel that holds all the switches set into the 'arm rest' on the drivers side?

1a. I live in the UK - is there likely to be any other name for this 'control panel'?

2.  is it likely to be an electronic failure or a mechanical switch failure that perhaps could be repaired?

3.  also i cannot find a fuse labelled for the power windows or indeed the sun roof. where is that likely to be and what will it be called?

phil

I have same problem and my question is how to remove old power windows master switch to replace with new one.

Regards,
Richard

Answer
Richard,

In the pull handle there is a plastic plug you remove to get to the screw.  Remove the screw and lift up and back on the assembly.  The front is held in by a clip.  After you remove the master switch assembly you will need to unplug it from the harness by depressing the clips.  Now, flip it over and unscrew the master switch from the trim.  Place the trim on the new switch and you are ready to reinstall.  rockauto.com is a good and cheap source for factory parts.  If they do not have it courtesyparts.com is another source.  Or, if you cannot wait check your local parts stores.  I just hate to order stuff and have to go back and pick it up.  If I have to pay someone to order it I will just get it off the net.
