Nissan Repair: 2004 sentra spec v, volt ohm meter, haynes manual

Question
QUESTION: I have a couple of questions my check engine
light is on and it gave me the 0300 code and I
had just changed the spark plugs what could it
be? And I am also hearing a rattling noise that
sounds like it might be coming from my
transmission and I know it's not the catilik
converter and it only happens when i push the
car to higher rpms what could that be?

ANSWER: Josh,

You probably have defective plugs or bad wires.  The P0300 is a random misfire.  The high RPM noise is probably knock noise.  I would check these and put in a tank of premium gas.

QUESTION: Ya I thought so to but it turns out I don't have plugs I have some kind of coils
or something like that but I guess I should just replace those I and also I am
only getting 15.9 mpg city I know that can't be right any solutions?

ANSWER: Josh,

You have spark plugs.  But, you also have a coil on each plug.  You probably need new coils.  But, if you bought Bosch plugs I would replace them.  I have not had good luck with them in Nissan cars.

QUESTION: No I bought Ngk plugs and how will I know if it is the plugs or coils that are
going bad?

Answer
Josh,

If you have NGK plugs and they were installed properly and have the right gap replace the boot section from the coils to the plugs.  Inside there is a spring that makes the connection.  Also dielectric grease is recommended on both ends to eliminate corrosion.  Get a Haynes Manual and a digital volt ohm meter and perform an ohm check on the coils if you think any are defective.
