Nissan Repair: Nissan Maxima 2002, Japan built, panama city panama, nissan maxima

Question
Hello Calvin,
I own Maxima 2002, VQ30DE, Japan built, as I was told.
I own this car for little more then one year, and purchased it when I moved to Panama City, Panama. The car has 128k km's.
About 1 1/5 months ago, the car started to make a knocking noise when accelerator pushed. My first reaction was TIMING belt, but after consulting with repair technician & a friend who for many years worked in Nissan dealers shop we came to conclusion that this model do not have the BELT rather the TIMING CHAIN, which rarely need replacement.
So, the only logical solution was the KNOCK SENSOR. My mechanic replaced the Knock Sensor, but the problem did not go away. I went to computerized check of the engine, which did not find problems, even if the knocking sound is still there. After consulting with some more mechanics, they came to conclusion that it must be the TIMING CHAIN. In Panama City the situation with replacement parts is not easy, so Now I'm looking on line for timing chain and find out that there is more then one replacement timing chain kits. Could you possibly say which is the correct one, without taking it apart (this is my only car, and I need it for the work).
And if it is a common problem? Would you be able to suggest where to purchase it.

Answer
Hi Alex -

Tell me something -
This knocking sound, does it happen only when accelerating, or going up a hill? Can you describe the sound, like a paint can with the ball inside? Or is it a deeper more metallic sound?

Let me know -
aloha
