Nissan Repair: pathfinder, trans x, desired results

my 99 pathfinder transmission will only engage after the engine has warmed up completely.  it shifts into overdrive from a stop and then goes through the gears sometimes.  if it is warmed up or driven a couple of miles, it works perfectly.

Sounds like the fluid is gummed up and needs to be changed.  If a fluid change does not correct the problem you are most probably looking at a rebuild.  You could try a quart of Trans X after the fluid change as a lat resort to build pump pressure.  Basically, the seals will need to be replaced if the aforementioned fails to produce the desired results.  And, if you are in there it is the time to replace the bands and clutches.
