Nissan Repair: nissan altima rpms drop on startup, air control valve, nissan altima

Question
hi, i have a 1995 nissan altima. recently when starting the car after putting it in drive or reverse the rpms drop and the car acts like it wants to go dead. This stop once you you get on the gas to go. Once the car is driven for around a mile this stops happening at stop signs and red lights. The car then acts perfectly normal for the rest of the drive however once stoped and restarted it begins again. Could you please help me figure out what the problem with the car may be? Thank you!

Answer
Eric,

Sounds like your idle air control valve is sticking on startup.  I would get a Haynes Manual and a digital volt ohm meter and follow the directions on checking the electrical values for yours.  But, what you should know is the inner workings are probably plugged too.  The throttle body should be cleaned with the replacement of the idle air control valve.
