Nissan Repair: nissan xterra dash removal, nissan xterra, dash point

Question
after you removed the dash what did you do to the nissan xterra to remove the airbag without it going off thank you ?

Answer
Josh,

If you are going to remove the dash.  The whole dash, you need to disconnect the battery first.  Wait five minutes and disconnect the airbag fuse.  Wait another five minutes and disconnect the yellow harness at both the steering wheel and inside the glovebox area.  Wait another five minutes.  Now, be sure not to get between the airbag and it going off.  Work around them by working to the side to remove them or if leaving it with the dash point it away from you while you work and remove and transport it.  Do not sit it face down and if you are working where static is a problem be sure to ground yourself.  Always lay the airbag face up so, if it does go off it only deploys and does not launch.  I really like old milk crates, the ones made out of steel to sit them in while being stored.  Keep people away from them.  Installation is the reverse of removal.  Be careful and if you are not confident as to how to do it leave it to a professional.  It is not worth your life.  Also, if an airbag goes off in the vehicle they tend to take out the windshield and dash and other interior parts.
