Nissan Repair: 2004 nissan xterra, nissan xterra, playing in the mud

I went playing in the mud the other night. When i got up in the morning my battery was dead. I replaced the battery and when i tried to start it the starter is not making any noise at all my fuel pump is on but when i turn it over it only wants to engage the starter to turn it over when it wants too. now it wont engage at all is this the starter???

Sounds like the starter to me.  If you can jump and get the Xterra started go to Autozone or Checker for a free electrical inspection.  Also, check all the fuses and fuse links.  If all else fails, remove the starter and have it checked at one of the placed I previously listed.
