Nissan Repair: 97 nissan maxima, mass airflow sensor, volt ohm meter

Question
my car seems to want to shut off and sometimes it does.the rpms go from 1500 to 500 to 200 back to 2000 or 1500 and then shut off.when I start it back up it acts like its running out of gas.it studders and throws like a whitish smoke I accelerated and a lot of smoke comes out. I pull over giving it some gas and then it starts to run fine.the check engine light doesn't go on.this doesn't happen all the time so when I take it to a mechanic it never does it. it dangerous cause im making a left turn and it'll do it and shuts off.when it starts acting up like that I need to be putting it in neutral which kinda helps it alittle please help advice thank you

Answer
Cesar,

White smoke means oil is getting burnt.  Black smoke means too much fuel.  I would pull a valve cover and make sure the oil return passages are clear.  Further, I would be looking at the mass airflow sensor as the problem making the car die.  It usually does not throw a code.  Purchase a Haynes Manual and use the procedure and values for checking your mass airflow sensor.  Get a volt / ohm meter to check the air meter.  Email me back if you need more.
