Nissan Repair: nissian repair, pop sound, distributor cap

today i went to start my 2002 nissian ultima i heard a pop then it did not want to start i waited a couple minutes then tried it didnt want to turn over at first then after several tries it did drove it home parked it and tried to start again same thing did not want to turn over-- the service engine light had come on last week

Questions for you:

When was the last time you had a tune up? As it could be plugs, distributor cap or rotor, wires, etc.

When you drove it home, how was it running? Was it rough and missing?

Where did the pop sound come from? Engine or exhaust?
