Nissan Repair: nissan truck will not rev, vacuum leaks, remanufactured alternator

Question
I have a 97 nissan pickup. I dided one night like it ran out of gas. A couple of days before it died the batery light came on. I have changed the wires, plugs, cap, rotor button and fuel pump. I also put a remanufactured alternator on for the batery light. It is hard start and then it will idle fine if you rev it up slowly it will go until the rev limiter kicks it out but if you rev it very quickly it will almost instantly shut down and as soon as you let off of it it will go ack to idling fine. Any ideas?

Answer
Michael,

First, I would go to Autozone or Checker and get a free code reading to see if anything is stored in memory.  But, from the sounds of it the truck either has a bad air meter or the hose from the air meter to the intake is leaking, as in cracked or loose.  Otherwise, check for vacuum leaks where unmetered air is entering the engine via a vacuum leak.
