Nissan Repair: 300ZX Z32 Clutch Bleeding, 300zx z32, vacuum bleeder

Question
I replaced the slave and master cylinders for my clutch and I have tried bleeding several times. Problem: pedal stays on the floor. pumping quickly builds pressure but if i let go and try again it goes to the floor. i have bled at least 2 bottles of fluid through already and basically the entire system has new fluid. But there is no back pressure! Help!

Answer
Nate,

Bleeding clutches on Nissan cars is a pain.  You have experienced it.  Now, I would think if you did all that bleeding you should have a good pedal.  But, you did not say if you replaced the slave cylinder?  I would replace it and start over with the bleeding.  The procedure for bleeding the system is to first top off the fluid.  Then use you toe to lift the pedal and press it until you get some feeling of pressure building.  Now, have someone crack the bleeder on the slave cylinder and close it really fast.  Repeat the process until you have a decent pedal feel and the clutch releases.  If this does not work get a vacuum bleeder and hook on the bleeder on the slave cylinder and suck the air out that way.  Remember, if the bleeder screw is open with the pedal coming back up to the normal rest position air will be sucked into the system and you have to start over.  Also, if you let the fluid get low in the reservoir will allow air to enter the system from above and you have to start all over bleeding the system.
