Nissan Repair: Engine Problem, fuel pressure gauge, chevrolet optra

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

My car is not Nissan but im asking you as an engine expert.
My car is a 1.6L Injection Engine 2006 Chevrolet optra.

The problem is it turns off while im driving it.
I start it up, warm for a while, start driving normally and sudenlly the engine cuts off and have to restart it again. this keeps on 3 to 4 times..
When this problem accured i started to feel the engine is much weaker..

It cuts off when a kickdown press on the gas pedal is made, but with very slight pressing i avoide the cutting off.
Also it consumes alot of gas.. Average 300 km for a tank of 50 liters.... i use Fuel octane 92

What could be the cause of the problem of cutting of aside from the Spark plugs , Air filter, Fuel filter.?????

Hope i provided the information needed to help you help me with my problem.

Thank you....

ANSWER: Sherif,

It is either fuel or spark.  Now, I would not think the sparkplugs unless they were burnt up.  I would be looking at checking the fuel pressure to make sure you have a proper reading.  I would think your car would be On Board Diagnostics II (OBDII) and that you could get a reading on what codes are being set?  From the instant cut off after running the car I would think the fuel pressure should be checked first.  Get a fuel pressure gauge that you can screw on the fuel rail and tape the gauge to the windshield and drive the car.  If the pressure drops off when the car dies you know the relay that powers the fuel pump or the pump itself is defective.  If not then you are looking at ignition related issues.  If the air filter is dirty, really dirty, that could cause a problem.  But, it is usually the sensor that sends the signal to fire the sparkplugs or the coils themselves.  Email me back with what you find

QUESTION: Hi,

Thank you very much, your email was helpfull..

But i wanted to inform you that i changed the Spark plugs, Air filter, Fuel filter and got new ones..

Im going to check the Relay and the fuel pump, but about the pressure gauge, i live in egypt and to buy one wont be much available.

Should i check the fuel injection spray plugs???
And what you might think of that high gas consuming
52 liters only 300 km..?????????

Answer
Sherif,

The problem sounds like the fuel pressure regulator has failed or the injectors are leaking since your fuel consumption is so high.  I would think the engine is flooding.  I would check rockauto.com and see if they ship internationally to Egypt.  Since your fuel pressure is low the fuel is probably leaking out the injectors that are sticking open.

My parents lived in Cairo for ten years and I have been over for a visit that was over six weeks.  It is a beautiful city.
