Nissan Repair: nissan parking brake, nissan sentra, rear shoes

Question
how do i manually release a stuck parking brake on a 1997 nissan sentra?  thanks

Answer
Tom,

This depends on where it is stuck.  Drum brakes in the back are applied via the hand brake.  If the hand brake is stuck in the vehicle then you disassemble it to release the catch.  If you release the handle and the brakes are still on it will require getting the car on jacks to get under the vehicle to release the cables that pull on the lever that applies the rear shoes.  You can remove the cables and unscrew the tensioner bolt to release tension.
