Nissan Repair: 95 Maxima Starting Problems, crank angle sensor, bell housing

Question
Hi there.  Have 2 95 maxima SE's.  Love them. One has a problem that nobody seems to be able to solve (3 mechanics).  It cranks and cranks, occasionally kicks back (like way advanced timing or detonation), then sputters to life if I am lucky or have not killed the battery trying.  I have replaced the starter twice because of this (over a year).  ALso replaced the crank angle sensor (under the bell housing -the easy one).  One suggests loose timing chain. I swapped computers with my other Max - same thing.  IF I PUSH/CLUTCH START IT STARTS RIGHT UP.  HELP!!
Thank you!
Lorenzo

Answer
Lorenzo,

Check the ignition relay for porper operation.  One runs the starter and the other the start mode of the ignition.  Switch the relay from the other Maxima and see if the problem goes away.  At start mode it is 12 volts and run it drops to 9.
