Nissan Repair: 95 Nissan Altima, fusible link fuse, nissan altima

Question
I have a 95 nissan altima that when i turn the key the engine does not turn over. Actually nothing happens when I turn the key, no grinding no clicking just dead silence. The lights on the dash and the headlights work so I'm sure the battery is working fine. I have replaced the starter and the ignition switch and still no luck.  HELP!

Answer
Hi Daisy -

First of all, I am assuming that your vehicle is automatic. While you are turning the key, try to shift the car between neutral and park and move you shift lever back and forth.

If that does not work, then turn on the headlights and try to start the car again. If the headlights suddenly go out, you need to either check the battery terminal connections, or replace the battery.

If the light stay lit, then turn them off, and cross the starter terminals and see if the car turns.

If the car turns, then check the fusible link (should be near the battery), or check power from your ignition switch on your steering column. You will need a 12V circuit tester for this. Sometimes the contacts in your ignition switch get burned.

Basically you are trying to find where you are losing the voltage to start your car. From the battery, trace the cable to the fusible link, fuse bax, ignition switch, starter and solenoid.

Hope this helps -
