Pontiac: Pontiac 86 Trans Am ignition key, pontiac trans am, lock cylinder

Question
I have a 1986 Pontiac Trans Am and went to start the car with the gear shift in neutral.  The car stalled and I turned the key back to the off position.  The ignition key then locked and now I can not turn the key at all.  I can still move the gear shift to all gears, but just can not turn the key at all.  Could you please tell me how I can fix this.  Is there a site that I would be able to get the schematics for the steering column also.

Thank you.

Answer
Sounds like you have a bad ignition lock cylinder. I dont know of any web sites that give schematics or step by step instructions because I have never searched for any. You can try your local library. They usually have sevice manuals there.
You may also have jambed or broken something in the column if you have the brake transmission shift interlock system(BTSI) on your car. If you have to step on the brake to shift out of park then you have the BTSI system. Also you should not have been able to turn the key all the way off with the trans in neutral.
