Nissan Repair: MIL is on -DTC p1440, p1336, p1444, crank angle sensor, poor gas mileage

Question
Hey- thanks for taking the time. 98 pathfinder se 132,000 miles-these are
my error codes, not proud of em'. engine was running smooth with MIL on
(poor gas mileage was all that was observed), then abruptly started running
rough, lacking power. In my research thus far I've found TSB ref#NTB00-085a
which describes the cleaning procedure for leaking evap canisters. I believe
this will address p1440 and p1444. How related could the p1336 be?
Wondering if charcoal has leaked and is now in the engine. Any educated
speculations?

Answer
Chad,

No worries about getting charcoal in the engine from the canister.  The canister is just a storage device for gas and vapors that overflow from the gas tank.  The system is supposed to be pressurized and if a hose is rotten or a clamp has loosened up or the canister itself has a crack the code will set.  The other one is the valve that is electrically activated.  A wrecking yard would solve the problem just getting another canister with the valve on it.  The P1336 is a crank sensor showing a fluctuation.  This could be a defective crank angle sensor or an engine with a heavy miss.  Check the plugs and injectors before you purchase a crank angle sensor.  I say this since the P1336 is pretty rare as codes go and it is usually not the crank sensor.  But, do not count it out and just check the plugs and injectors first.
