Nissan Repair: nissan 2004 sentra 1.8L, heater hoses, heater core

Question
heat does not blow out of the heater.  replaced thermostat and water pump and still same problem and flush heater core.  when the engine is idling high sometimes the heat comes out, nissan says air in system and needs to be removed...?  is this right, can I do it myself

Answer
Robert,

Yes, that is the usual problem with a Nissan.  Loosen one of the heater hoses and let the trapped air out of the system.  Also, you can note after you do that and put the hose back that one hose is hotter than the other.  The hot hose is where water enters the heater core and the colder one is the return line.  You might have to bleed the air several times to get all the air out and I have found that the return is the better hose to loosen for allowing trapped air to escape.
