Nissan Repair: 2003 nissan pathfinder, nissan pathfinder, brake fluid

Question
Hi, I was wondering if you might be able to help me out on this question..I own a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, and few days ago my VDC and slip lights came on as soon as I made a sharp right turn..The brake light went away after 30 mins and the VDC light remained on. The next morning I started the truck and there were no lights until I tried to stop on an icy road..and the ABS turned on, and the lights were back on..

What do you think It might be?

Answer
Deep,

I would think the brake fluid needs to be flushed.  Brake fluid is hygroscopic and that means that it loves water.  So, after two years the fluid soaks up water and that makes the fluid spongy.  New, brake fluid should make the problem go away.  Also, if the pads are worn too thin then they would need to be replaced too.  As the pads wear the pistons extend to take up the gap and fluid adds to the back of the piston bore.  This fluid is compressed and when old brake fluid soaks up water the fluid gets spongy and this compressability meses with the brakes ability to slow the car resulting in the computer setting a code.  Use Ford High Performance Brake Fluid you purchase from Ford.  It is DOT 3 and works great.
