Nissan Repair: Odometer reading, vehicle speed sensor, digital odometer

Question
Love my 2000 Maxima...134,000 miles and still running strong.  Just had to replace the ignition coils after SES light had come on.  A couple of days later my digital odometer went nuts.  I can't read the numbers.  They apear all jumbled like when a calculator goes bad.  Any advice?  Is this a quick fix?...fuse or something?  I'd hate to go back to the dealership any pay mega-money again.

Answer
Carrie,

If the speedometer is working fine and only the odometer is going nuts then it is the cluster.  If both are going nuts then it is the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission.  That is only a ten millimeter bolt holding the thing on and a plugin connector.  An easy repair.  If the cluster is defective it is going to cost big bucks if you go to the dealer.  The easy way out is to get a cluster from the wrecking yard.  Since you are over 100K miles no one is going to give you a hard time for changing it.  Otherwise you could take yours out and go on-line and looks up several cluster repair places.  Or, you might have one in your town.  Now, if it were me I would go the wrecking yard route since it is the most cost effective way to get things working.
