Nissan Repair: 91 Nissan Stanza, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have an engine that will start and stay on as long as I pump the accelerator.  There is some regularity at 3000 RPM's.   Any slight decrease in acceleration will first slowly drop in RPM's and then rapidly drop to a stall, unless the accelerator pedal is constantly pumped.   Bottom line I start the car it is fine as long as I have the accelerator pumped.

Answer
Hi Peter,

There is a bad sensor of some kind. Air fuel mix, idle are all computer controlled. If you can get it scanned for codes, this should be an easy fix. It would save us from throwing a dozen parts at it. I think though, if you want to try this, replace the Mass Air Flow sensor AKA a MAF sensor. This is the likely suspect.
