Nissan Repair: Xterra timing belt, timing belt, water pump

Question
Dear Von,

I also have a 2000 Xterra, V-6, and need to have my timing belt changed. I have 104,000 miles. Should I have the water pump replaced at the same time? and do you have an estimate as to what it might cost?  Thanks

Answer
Joe,

Yes, replace the water pump with the timing belt while you have it done.  Also, make sure they replace the idle tensioner since it will fail soon and you do not want to pay for it twice.  You are looking at something like $500 to $600 dollars.
