Nissan Repair: Leaking A/C, heater hoses, airconditioning system

Question
I have noticed that my 2000 Altima has been leaking from underneath the glove compartment. When I took a look at it, I notice that that the black case where the A/C is had a crack and was wet.  When I tried to unscrew the case I to remove the bottom part of the case, It seems to to attached somewhere else. How do I remove the A/C? Do I have to remove the whole dash board aswell?

Answer
Tony,

If you are talking about the heater or the airconditioner leaking under the dash then you would want to take the unit down.  To remove the unit take the glovebox out and you will find more mounting bolts up top.  Also, if you are going to take it out remove the heater hoses at the firewall and have the airconditioning system evacuated since you do not want to violate law and just open a line and release it.  Again, if it is only water then the drain needs to be unblocked on the passenger side, on the lower part of the firewall.  You will find a black hose that is plugged and needs to be cleaned out.  Do not stick anything too deep as you can poke a hole in the heater core or airconditioner evaporator.
