Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan 240SX Convertible Flooding Itself, crank angle sensor, nissan 240sx

Question
Von, we have recently run into a problem starting the 240sx due to flooding in the combustion chamber, seen by the spark plugs being wet.  There is spark and the fuel pressure  is good when the key is turned from off to on.  The pressure is about 43 psi.  Sometimes the vehicle will start and then dies soon after possible due to flooding.  When running for the short time, a large amount of white smoke is seen out of the exhaust and smells like gas.  The ECM shows 5 long and 5 short blinks, which supposedly corresponds to no problem in the manual.  Could the ECM be bad in this case?  If so, is there a way to test it?  What else could wrong?  The vehicle has been sitting idle for about a month.  At this point, we are stuck and need your wisdom.  Thanks for your assistance, Ben.

Answer
Ben,

It sounds like the fuel injectors are either defective or staying open too long.  You can do an ohms check on the injectors to see if they are all the same.  The value escapes me but it is in the Haynes manual.  If you have taken all the sparkplugs out and they are wet then it is the crank angle sensor that is telling the injectors to stay open.  When there is no power they are closed.  You can check for leaky injectors by turning the car on and seeing the fuel pressure and then turn the key off.  If the pressure drops off really fast you have bad injectors.
