Nissan Repair: Nissan 200SX AC repair, nissan 200sx, ac evaporator

Question
How do I replace the AC evaporator and expansion valve in a 1997 Nissan 200SX SE? I replaced the condensor and the repair shop said there was blockage. No leaks under pressure test, but after evacuating, they could not refill freon due to some blockage. They suggested replacing the receiver/dryer and evaporator/expansion valve. The receiver/dryer will be easy, but how to get to the evaporator/expansion valve?

Answer
Bill,

This is going to suck but the airconditioner case under the passenger side of the dash has to be removed to change out the components indicated.  I have done it and it requires removal of the glove box and then the air box under the dash.  Disconnect the lines at the firewall, both airconditioning and heater hoses and then remove the bolts and the ones under the dash that hold it on and pull the whole thing out and then replace the evaporator core and expansion valve.  Use new o-rings and plenty of refrigerant oil with the new o-rings and put it all back together and then have the system evacuated and charged.  I just did one last summer.  It takes a day in the garage to do the work and if you love your cars like I do you will be careful and that is why it takes a day.  Otherwise you could do it in half the time but there will be scratches and parts left over.  I spend a couple of hundred dollars on parts but the air is really cool.
