Nissan Repair: 2001 Altima jackrabbits at lights/idle, bosch injectors, nissan cars

Question
Von...I noticed 2 other similar questions to a problem I am having with my 2001 Altima LXE but my husband and I have a theory we'd like your opinion on.   When I am stopped at a light, my car starts to vibrate/jackrabbit after about 20-25 seconds.  Basically, we are seeing that the RPM drops to just below 1 a few seconds after I stop and then tries to drop to about 1/2 RPM.  The car jackrabbits as it then oscillates between 1/2 RPM and 1 RPM.   My husband thinks the computer is trying to drop the RPMs to a "true idle" but for some reason is having trouble doing it.   We drove around last night and the timing is extremely consistent..it doesn't start to happen until at least 20 seconds of being stopped.    There are no warning lights anywhere.   Ever heard of anything like this?  (It looks like the question on 10/31 and 11/04 look similar with 2001 Altimas)

Answer
Karen,

It sounds like you have a stuck injector that is flooding the engine when you are at idle.  The engine is attempting to compensate and you get the jumping idle.  I would have the fuel pressure checked running and when the engine is turned off.  If the fuel pressure drops off really fast you have a stuck injector if the pressure is consistant when running the pump and regulator should be fine and then it is just the problem of finding the offending injector or two...  Since the French company Renault bought controlling interest in Nissan they have started using Bosch injectors and they are not really tolerant of dirty American gas.  Some Nissan cars still use Nippondenso injectors and these seem to hold up better.  I would ask for Nippondenso injectors as replacements for any that are found defective.
