I had my Water Pump and Alternator replaced and after my car (1996 Maxima GLE) is skipping and stalling only when driving. This seems to be happening only when the engine is warm. The timing was rechecked on the car and it seemed to improve but is still stalling/skipping (almost like it is running out of gas). Tried installing coil from a used engine with no change. Car was running fine before Water Pump and alternator was replaced. Please Help!!

Brad,

Have the shop check the static timing of the engine.  If the cam has jumped a tooth it will cause this problem.  other items could be related to a vacuum hose being torn or a sensor on the cover being cracked when they did the pump.  They need to put the car on a scope and analyze the condition when it is happening...

Thanks for the reply!!!
After the timing was rechecked and adjusted the problem is very sporadic and only happens when driving it seems. Will they be able to scope an issue like this?

Answer
Brad,

If it only happens while driving turn the overdrive off and see if it goes away.  It could be unrelated and just be the lockup torque converter going out.  But, if it is still there with the overdrive off the shop can diagnose it by running the engine up.
