Nissan Repair: Squeling belts on 99 Frontier, frontier 4, deflection

Question
I replaced the belts on my 99 Frontier 4 cyl (90,000 miles)because they would squel most of the time when it was first started for approx 5 seconds. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold. I replaced the belts (all 3, P.S. A/c and alt)with aftermarket belts and gave them about 1/2 inch of play. The squel returned and want to know if I should tighten them more or replace them with Nissan belts? The alt,etc all seem to turn without any abnormal resistance. What do you think? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Lynn,

I would tighten the belts so there is a half inch of deflection on the long side of each and see if that takes care of the noise.  Do not overtighten as this can cause bearing failure.  If the belts still make noise I would replace them with Nissan belts.  But, my bet is just a little more tightening and you should be fine.
