Question
i have a 97 nissan altima gxe. when i turn  on the right front side i hear a poppong noise but when i turn left i dont hear it. i have checked the right side and i dont see anything wrong at all. Ive oiled and greased everything but still it pops when i turn to the right. Im thinking its the ball joint but im not certain. I just want to hear what u think about this. Thanks

Answer
Lee,

If it is a pop and not a continuous clunk it is the strut bearing.  At the top of the strut there is a bearing that the strut spins on when you turn and there was a problem with the right side on your model as well as some Maxima cars.  It is not that difficult to replace if you have the tools.  If not, take it to a shop and it should be aobut $100 for labor and another $75 for parts.  If required, and it probably will be, you will have to get the car re-alinged and that would be the cost of an alignment too.
