Nissan Repair: auto temp control, nissan maxima 2005, nissan maxima

I have a nissan maxima 2005 and when i press the auto button for the auto temp control, it automatically selects the feet vents, and when i want the a/c or heat to come to the head vents, the auto switches off. Why does it go directly to the feet vents and not allow it anywhere else on auto?

There are two causes for the problem. One is the control computer is defective and the other is the body control module.  If it is a 2005 I would take it to the dealer and have them hook up the Consult II scan tool and have the system checked.
