Nissan Repair: 04 Nissan Xterra Brake, nissan xterra, steering wheel

Hi Von,  my brake light has been on for over a month now and has not gone off.  Today I just noticed that when I turn the steering wheel it makes noise.  I haven't followed the maintance schedule like I am supposed to except for changing the oil.  Thanks for any advice you can give me.

If the brake light you are talking about is on the dash check the fluid first.  Fill if needed and be sure to check the front brake pads.  As the pads wear the fluid level goes down.  This is because the pistons move out to take up the slack from the pad wear.  If the fluid is fine then it is the parking brake.  The noise in the steering wheel is considered normal.  But, you can spray Armor All in between the column and wheel to quiet the noise.  The airbag has a winding that connects it to the cars wiring and that is where the noise comes from.  The Armor All only quiets it so much.
