Hi I hve no clue what is wrong with my car.  It is a 91 nissan maxima.  It was running fine but had a small leak around the valve cover.  I had the gasket replaced and as soon as i got it back it started missing.  I took it back and they said it was a bad injector. They replaced that but it didnt help.  Do you have any idea what replacing a valve cover gasket could have screwed up?

Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

If the valve cover was replaced there is good chance that the engine has a bad plug or wire.  Also, since the valve cover was removed there is a chance that there is a vacuum leak.  So, look over the engine to see if there are any vacuum hoses leaking.

OK I will try that but I forgot to tell you the most important thing.  It used about a quart of oil every 3000 miles before and now it uses a qt every 100 miles.  Would a vacuum leak cause that?

Thanks

Answer
Eric,

On the oil consumption part it would probably be that they have oil leaking into the intake and the oil is getting burnt and sent out the exhaust.  This needs to be corrected quickly as the excess oil will kill the converter.  The job needs to be redone and soon.
