Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Altima Oil in ignition, valve cover gasket, nissan altima

Question
I have a 93 Altima with 166,000 miles on it, the car has full power to all electrical accessories but zero iginition to start the car. I pulled the plug wires and the spark plug closet to the timing chain has oil up over top the spark plug. Where did this oil come from? I replaced the distributor and cap approx 10,000 miles ago.

Thanks

Answer
Tarik,

The oil is coming from the valve cover seals.  The valvecover has o-rings that fit over the part where the sparkplug goes as well as on the outside, around the valve cover.  I would replace the valve cover gasket.  If you have no spark I would take the distributor apart and make sure the seal is not blown.  But, before taking it apart I would get a test light and probe the electrical connection to the coil.  If you are not getting twelve volts on start and nine volts when the key is in the run mode you need to find the ignition fuse and relay and check and replace as needed.
