Nissan Repair: 95 Maxima Dead Battery, controller area network, jumper cables

Question
I recently tried to start a '95 Maxima that had not been started in a while.  No surprises, the car would not start and nothing else would work either, radio, wipers, etc.  I attempted to jump start the car, however, once I conected the jumper cables to the terminals, the horn began to blow and would not stop.  Also, the cd player ejected a CD that was in the player.  I did not attempt to re-start the car after connecting the jumper cables.

Answer
Jeff,

If the car is dead the battery needs to be replaced or charged and then the system needs to be checked.  It seems that there was no electricity in the system and the controller area network was shut down.  So, here is what happens.  The computer shut down and then nothing works.  The input of electricity with the jumpers was not enough to get everything back up and running.  So, we need to get the battery charged to see if the alternator is defective or not.  Now, since the system is all the way dead you might have to reprogram the keys or remotes.
