Nissan Repair: repair on a nissan ..., nissan maxima gxe, nissan maxima

Question
I own a '92 Nissan Maxima GXE and on my way back into town the steering wheel locked up and the brakes locked while driving going about 30-35mph. I nearly wrecked into a bridge. I had to call a tow truck and had to have it towed back. When I got home we changed the timing belt, distribuator cap, rotor ignition and it still didn't want to start. When we got the timing belt on it still didn't want to start. We then noticed the rear timing gear was busted around were the bolt goes on. So we bought a new rear timing gear. It still didn't start. While trying to start the car we noticed that the rear timing gear wobbled sideways. So we pulled off the part again and noticed that the end of the camshaft was busted. But only where it holds the gear in place. So my question is what should I do now? What is the aftermath of a camshaft being broken? Is the car worth fixing? W/B Thank you very much for time.                    Julia

Answer
Julia,

My bet is the valves are bent as the pistons have hit them when the timing messed up.  Take the head off and have a machine shop go through the valves and replace the cam.  If you can get a used head that would work too.  You have a nice car but the head is going to have to be gone through to make it work.  Yes, I love your year model and I would fix it.
