Nissan Repair: Aux Emission Control, charcoal cannister, nissan pathfinder

97 Nissan Pathfinder.  My service engine light stays on.  Diagnosis by garage turned up "aux Emission Control".  Am trying to get tested for annual inspection sticker. What is this failure and how can it be fixed?

Check to see that there are no broken or cracked hoses from the evaporative cannister and the gas tank.  Or, you might have a bad fuel cap.  To check to see if your fuel system maintains pressure slowly remove the gas cap and see if it vents.  If it does not replace the cap.  Then look for loose, cracked or broken hoses from the gas tank to the charcoal cannister.
