Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Fuel gage accuracy, oldsmobile silhouette, fuel sending unit

Question
1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette GLS 3.4L 85k miles
Gas gage doesn't come off full until after 150 to sometimes 200 miles.  The overhead console reading seams to agree with the dashboard gage with miles remaining.  I suspect the fuel sending unit but didn't want to drop the tank or foot the expense if there were other options.

Recently replaced headliner which required the disconnection of overhead console.  Trouble seems to align with this repair but can't justify the correlation.

Thanks!

Answer
hi wade.well you are most likely right sender is bad the headliner replacement would probably not be related as this is just a plug .so not very likely part of this prob.try and beat on the fuel tank when you are sure it should read less if this changes the reading you will be sure the prob is the sender.also when you drop the tank and remove sender plug it back in manually move float up and down while assistant reads guage.it could possibly just be hung up or disconected from it,s holder .good luck please take a min of your time to rate my help ty billymac
