Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Brakes/Master Cylinder, oldsmobile cutlass supreme, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
I have an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertable 1990. I need a new Master Cylinder. My vin number doesnt match up with my master cylinder, and i cant find this part anywhere. My car is not supposed to have ABS brakes, but we think it does. Maybe that is why we can't find this part?can you help me?

Answer
Hi Rosa,
In the glove compartment of the car is a tag with about 100 little three didgit codes. Each code means something that was on the car when it left the factory.
I will send a link about those codes, called a RPO code, or regular production option. You can compare your codes to the chart, and it will tell exactly what brake system it has. The brake systems will be in the "J" area, like JM4, etc.
My link only goes through 88 I believe, but your code may be there, and should be the same, if it is. But you can tell your "J" codes to a Chevy dealer parts man, and he can tell you what kind of system it is.
And some type of antilock brakes on that car would seem correct to me.
