Pontiac Repair: 97 Bonneville Alarm, pontiac bonneville, remote keyless entry

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville.For the past few days everytime I open the car door first with the key, and also from the inside, the alarm goes off. I do not have a remote keyless entry. Is there a way I can stop this?
Thank you
Anne

ANSWER: Hi Anne:

di you lock the door with the key fob? If so only press the fob 1 time the second lock press is to put the car into theft mode. so try that first. when you open the door do the dome lamps come on from the drivers door? I'll assume that is where the issue is from the l/f door. chances are that you have a switch in the door loack assembly that is bad and the remote funsction module doesn't see the door open siganl and then the alarm goes off. There is not way to turn that option off other then not arming it with a second "LOCK" button press. good luck :-}

Answer
is this an sse or an sse? those up scale trims have the content tehft as well as a few se's if that is the way they were ordered. Still the same thing. You have an issue with a door lock tamper switch. the up scale (yours may be equipped) has a switch on the lock cylinder if that switch is bad it will cause your issue. with out having the VIN I can't tell you if the car has keyless entry if that is the case and it does (AU0) on the option code tag in the trunk you can just get a key fob and learn it to your car and avoid the while issue you have going on with the key. in the long run it's probably cheaper to just get a fob and learn it to the car then to have the switch in the door checked out and replaced. just a thought. I can't say I have ever seen a Bonneville that DIDN'T have keyless entry.
