QUESTION: i have a 1998 pontiac grand prix gt non supercharged, 3.8 3800 engine, it turned off on us onceday, then startedback, then did it again and wouldnt turn over, replaced the fuel pressure regulator and some vac hoses, car ran fine then turned off and would kick over, clean maf sensor, replace, idle air control sensor it was stuck nothing still, changed map sensor, still nothing, checked all sensors that could cause the car those problems, then changed out the fuel reg again car started but ran very very rich, then put new on back on ould start again, took trottle body apart and clean it, forgot to put the vac line back on but car started and ran but idle was high. put hose on car stalled car will not start with this vac hose attached to the trottle body but with it off the car runs idle high and will cut out after a while, what can be the problem?? thank you

ANSWER: Hey Kyle:

try running the car with the MAF unplugged and see if it runs okay. It will hesitate when you drive it but see if it runs better is so the MAF sensor is bad. That is where I would start looking.

QUESTION: The car wont start without it pluged in already tried it. With and without the hose attached the vac pine goes into a purge valve should i replace it or how do i test it

You lost me on that last part? if you unplug the purge line it runs okay? If for some reason the purge valve is stuck open it will run extremly rich. you can test it by unplugging the eletrical connetor and pull the line of going to the tank and start the car there shouldn't be any vacuum on the side going to the tank if there is the valve is stuck open.
