Pontiac Repair: DTC Failed, fuel filler pipe, gand prix

Question
I failed my emissions test and was given these four codes and would like to know what they mean? P0420, P0141, P0442, P0650.
It is a 2000 Pontiac Gand Prix, 3.1 engine.

Answer
Hi Kevin:

you have a bunch of issues here. the 420 is a bad catalitic converter code. the 141 is oxygen sensor code the 442 is a evap small leak code and the 650 is a MIL driver code. If this car is in rough shape body wise I don't think I would invenst a lot of $ into fixing it. The catalitic convert is VERY expensive and after market converts don't work and keep tripping codes you need an Original equipment converter to fix that part of it right. with out looking at It I can't tell you what the other issues are. The 442 may be caused by a rotted line of fuel filler pipe or a bad gas cap. the 650 code could be a burned out indicator in the dash cluster and the 141 more then likely is a bad heater in the oxygen sensor.
