Pontiac Repair: CV Axle 2001 Pontiac Montana, cv axle, cv boots

Question
I replaced the passenger side CV axle. I have everything back together. But there is "slop" in the Axle. The bolt is tight "almost flush" with the end of the axle. There is lots of thread left but the bolt does not want to tighten down any father. What I mean by slop is I can grab the axle between the CV boots and move the whole axle in and out about 1/2 inch, this lets the bolt move 1/2 inch or so in and out. This does not seem correct? Is it?

Answer
Hi Scott:
it sounds to me that either the threads on the outter cv joint are incorrect for the nut, The threads are damaged on the cv joint or the nut is the wrong thread/pitch. It's one of those that the issue is. The nut had to be run down tight onto the hub and torqued to the correct spec. Do not drive it like that It will damaged the hub and the new cv joint.
