Pontiac Repair: 2000 Montana low oil quantity warning, rodent damage, dip stick

Question
Todd, You've helped me before, how about a little more help.  My wifes van has started getting a "Low oil quantity" light on the message center.  I've checked the quantity and its either full, or in the crossed hatched area on the dip stick.  It will do it only occasionally (2-3 times a week) and it doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold.  The last time it happened was 2 days ago, right after I changed the oil and started the engine to check for leaks.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hey Ron:

It's a warning light for oil level low not quality. None the less either the oil level senesor in the bottom of the oil pan is bad or the wiring to the sensor is bad. Most of the time it's the sensor that goes bad. rarely is it the wiring but I have seena few where the wiring had rodent damage where a mouse chewed up the wiring to the sensor. not much else goes bad with these. The engine control monitor is what watches the seneor input and I have never seen an ECM go bad for this issue before. Good luck :)
