Pontiac Repair: idle learn control 1990 pontiac grand prix 3.1, electric cooling fan, pontiac grand prix

Question
Can the GM garage reset the correct values in the ECM for the idle learn control. I had the battery disconnected for three days and now the engine idles rough, stalls, surges. The vehicle was perfect before I disconnected the battery, no problems at all. I tried cycling the engine ignition switch and operating it at speeds above fifty mph for a sustained period but did not fix the problems.
thanks for your help

Answer
Hi there:

heres what you need to do. disconnect the battery again and let it sit a few minutes and hook it back up. set the parking brake start the car and put it in gear. make sure the a/c is off if the parking break is in op you will just start the car and let it run. let the car run for 10 minutes or untill the electric cooling fan comes on for the radiator. if the fan comes on before the 10 minutes turn the car off then. wait a minute and then start the car gain and put it in gear and let it run for 5 minutes more or untill the fan comes on which ever comes first in both start up's. That should do it for you. Good luck :)
