Pontiac Repair: 97 Sunfire strut mounts, pontiac sunfire, shock mounts

Question
I just purchased a 97 Pontiac Sunfire SE two door with 58,000 miles. There is a noise in the trunk area that sounds like it is caused by the shocks/struts. The shocks/struts seem to be working properly when you bounce the rear of the car. Would just replacing the strut mounts take care of the noise problem? Thanks

Answer
Hi Jerry:

Yep it's the upper shock mounts in the rear. they really ar not struts back they just gloified shocks but if you get aftermarket ones they will call them strut mounts. VERY common for them to go bad on that car.Just make sure that the shocks are not leaking if they are replace them in a pair as long as you have it aprast then replace them both If one's leaking the other is not far behind. It's a pretty easy fix to do. Good luck :)
