Pontiac Repair: 2003 Pontiac Montana a/c, pontiac montana, electric fan

Question
Good day.  Just a small question, This past week I decided to test the a/c system in my van to see if it was still working as the warranty is about over.  It does not work(compressor does not kick in nor does the electric fan) some ppl have told me that the a/c will not work in the cold.  I would like to know if the compressor would kick in even if the outside temp  is cold (below 0)  thanks

Answer
Hey Kevin:

YEs the A/C will not turn on if the ambient "outside" temp is to cold usually below 25 degrees as a good baseline. If the hood is closed and the van is run for a while and not driven it just sits and idles the under hood temp may bet hot enough to allow the system to turn on. Once it starts to run it should continue to run because the system running creats even more heat under the hood. Those vans are noted for condensers leaking so if the a/c doesn't work when the temps outside warm up that is a place to start looking. also if that van has rear a/c the lines under the van rot out as well! Good luck :}
