Pontiac Repair: 1999 pontiac grand prix gt 3.8 (not supercharged), mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Hey Todd, it's me again. I wrote to you a week or so about my car not starting and it turned out to be the Mass air flow sensor.

Well I have another problem. It was actually already there but never had it checked out until now.

The problem is when I turn right it makes a clicking noise, like a baseball card in a bicycle's spokes. Doesn't ever do it when I turn left.  Although, it will do it a little when it is parked on a decline with the nose of the car facing down.  The faster you go when I turn to the right, the faster the noise will get.

It's not the cv joint. Im almost positive on that. I was told today by a certified mechanic at the shop that they "THINK" it's the flexplate/flywheel......

what do you think???? could it be that???  and how bad is it to change???

Answer
Hi Jake:

Um it's possible but not probable. turning the car in one direction or the other shouldn't make a difference other than centrifugal force. It could be the inspection cover for the flywheel touching the flywheel it's a 2 piece plastic cover that goes around the starter motor and covers the bottom of the flywheel. If it were a flex plate it would make the noise most of the time and it would be worse when the car is in anything other than park because the flywheel drives the transmission and that torque makes it "flex" more thus more noise. That's my best guess. Good luck :)
