Pontiac Repair: 93 Trans Sport ABS, pontiac trans sport, rear wheel speed

Question
QUESTION: I have a '93 Pontiac Trans Sport, 3.8L.  The ABS light goes on and stays on, not blinking.  I had the car diagnosed and was told it was the left rear wheel speed sensor.  Where exactly is the sensor located?  Is it part of the hub assembly? Is this easily replaced or is it a major effort? Does it entail pulling the whole hub assembly apart? Thanks so much for any info you have!

ANSWER: Hi
The sensor is part of the hub.
It is a fairly easy repair here is the ALLDATA service procedure---
1-Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2-Remove rear wheel and tire assembly, then remove rear brake drum.
3-Rotating flange to gain access to bolt heads, remove wheel bearing and sensor attaching bolts and nuts.
4-Remove wheel bearing and sensor assembly, then disconnect sensor electrical connector.
5-Reverse procedure to install, torque wheel bearing and sensor assembly attaching bolts and nuts to 46 ft. lbs.
I hope this helps.
Please follow post back, if needed.
Good luck

QUESTION: Hi, I followed the instructions exactly- they seemed pretty straightforward. I rotated the flange and was able to remove the four bolts. The wheel bearing/sensor assy. will not come off.  I have tried prying it off with a screw driver and hammer and it won't budge. There does not seem to be any other bolts holding the assy. on. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the brg./sensor assy. off? Thanks.

Answer
Hi
Sounds like it is rusted in there.
I would spray it LIBERALLY with a penetrating oil spray and allow it to soak for a few hours, spraying it every so often.
You'll then probabally have to either
1) hammer it out hitting it from the rear
or
2)pull it out using a slide hammer (usually avalible for tool renting at you local auto parts store)
Hammering it from the rear will damage it beyond repair, so make sure your new one is correct.
I hope this helps
Good luck
